It's a Down Time

If you've lived in Northern California for the past 10 years, you will have seen your fair share of teams reach its peak and potential. Unfortunately, unlike our fellow southern brethren, nobody has achieved championship glory.

With the few exceptions that people might not care about.

Do you remember these guys? Sadly, the Bay Area's recent claim to fame has been the 3 Time Arena Football League Arena Bowl Champs, the San Jose Sabercats. Led by one of the UCD greats, Mark Grieb under center, they went on to win Arena Bowls in 2002, 2004, and 2007.

The 2005 Sacramento Monarchs behind the efforts of Finals MVP Yolanda Griffith (Pictured), Ticha Penicheiro, and Kara Lawson captured the first and only championship tied to the city of Sacramento.

Unless I'm forgetting anything else in the professional realm, there have been a few almosts in the region. 2001-2002 Sacramento Kings, the 2002-2003 Oakland Raiders, the 2002 San Francisco Giants, most San Jose Sharks teams since 2005, the Oakland Athletics, and the 2005-2006 Golden State Warriors to name a few.

So I guess while we in the Bay Area and Sacramento area wait for someone to get the job done, we can only hope someone will start to contend late in the playoffs...
